The development within subsea technology for standardisation of technical solutions for wellheads, flow assurance and production control has been tremendous over the last 15-20 years. This is proven through the number of subsea well completions undertaken by oil companies world wide during this period. Sophisticated technology now allows for successful performance of such projects in a manner that is more cost effective and reliable than ever before.
One area of technology that still has not followed the same development curve as the majority of technology mentioned above is advanced subsea work systems.
Remotely operated vehicles are still today predominantly based on the same technology that was developed and used 20 years ago. This will result in a suboptimal function for the upcoming field development activity in ultra deep waters.
VPartner recognises that there will soon be a significant technology gap unless measures are taken to bring innovative solutions into this picture to improve robotic intervention systems. The present technology will soon become the weak link in this context. VPartner has consequently taken an active role in the development and commercialisation of technology that can close this gap.
